About
The Project Funding Programmes were in place from 1 July 2006 to 31 December 2009. They funded projects of a minimum size in the fields of transportation, heat and waste heat, which aimed to use fossil energy more efficiently or to replace it with renewable energy.
Outcome
Over the course of their existence, the Project Funding Programmes approved 181 projects, of which 135 were still under contract at the last count. Over the period 2008 to 2012, the initially approved 181 projects promised CO₂ reductions of 1,06 million tonnes, which would have given rise to contributions of 109 million Swiss francs. The 135 projects active at the last count promised CO₂ reductions of 0,88 million tonnes in return for contributions of 92 million Swiss francs. The delivery shortfall due to contract terminations thus amounted to 17.5%. The active projects supplied emission reductions of 838‘262 tonnes of CO₂. Compared to the quantity agreed by contract, this implies a delivery shortfall of 4.4%.
In general, the Foundation concluded forward contracts with project owners for the delivery of emission reductions at a specified date and price. Delivery volumes were not specified (offtake).
