Woodchip heating for greenhouses in Fully
Project
Woodchip replaces fossil heating system for heating greenhouses.
Project owner
Family-owned company Michel Granges-Frassern
Initial situation
Set up in 1962, the company operates a number of greenhouses, which up until recently were heated using two fuel oil boilers. Annual fuel oil consumption was around 300’000 litres, and would have increased by a further 100’000 litres for additional adjoining greenhouses.
Due to Klimarappen
The greenhouses have been heated using woodchips since 2007. With a capacity of 1’800 kW, the installation covers 80% of heat requirements. The combustible is provided amongst others by waste wood from the forests of neighbouring municipalities. Two heat accumulators with a capacity of 120’000 litres each, as well as an oil-fired heating system, help cover peak loads. The installation is further fitted with a state-of-the-art particle filter.
Savings
The new installation saves an annual 360’000 litres of fuel oil and reduces CO2 emissions by a total of 5’660 tonnes over the period 2007 to 2012.
Investments
Michel Granges-Frasseren invested 1.7 million Swiss Francs in the new installation.
Additional cost
Compared to the fossil alternative, additional costs of investment and operation over the next 15 years amount to 918'000 Swiss Francs, of which the Foundation covers 35%.
