Wind project White Hill in New Zealand

Project

The JI project (project realised in another industrialised country) encompasses the construction and operation of a wind farm with a capacity of 58 MW and an annual electricity production of 200 GWh.

Project owner

Meridian Energy is New Zealand’s largest power producer as well as a leading producer of electricity generated from renewable energy. Meridian Energy holds a portfolio of projects in the field of renewable energies, including wind and hydraulic power, and already successfully operates the wind farm Te Apiti on New Zealand’s North Island. Further information relating to the project owner can be found on the following website: http://www.meridianenergy.co.nz.

Initial situation

The used power stemmed from fossil energy.

Due to Klimarappen

With a capacity of 58 MW and an annual electricity production of 200 GWh, New Zealand’s largest power producer, Meridian Energy Limited, is building a medium-sized wind farm on New Zealand’s South Island, numbering around 35 turbines. The generated power, which will replace electricity stemming from fossil energy, will be fed into the power grid and ensure the supply of electricity to around 25'000 households. The project began commercial operations in June 2007. The local topography is ideal and ensures favourable wind conditions for power production (average wind speed: 9.25 m/s).

Savings

400'000 – 650’000 Emission Reduction Units (ERUs).
